The art of Carvela

THEY ARE THE ART OF CARVELA SHOES

THE ARTISAN
Aptly associated with rebirth, the lotus flower plays a pivotal role in the Carvela store in Sandton. Inspired by old Italian vaulted ceilings and positioned as you enter the finely detailed shop, the steel floor plaque, which holds a single lotus flower, surrounded by frangipanis, begins the journey of Carvela’s strongly steeped heritage in South Africa.
Enter the store through hand forged, Italian renaissance inspired gates, and take part in the theatre of the design. Under the craftsmanship of a talented artist, the three by three meter steel gate, an art piece in itself, took more than 100 hours of forging and two months of intensive labour.
The artist, who graduated with a degree in fine art from in the eighties, is best known for his work with metal; from noveau decor to organic sculptural, he has established himself as a one of the country’s top blacksmiths. Collaborating with artist and colour consultant more than 400 handcrafted individual and unique frangipani flowers, each one laser cut, hand beaten and then shaped and welded to overlap. The frangipanis were then drilled into the gold painted sculpture, which plays a focal point in the store.

THE SCULPTOR
Working with found objects an art school sculpture major, creates his installations out of functional objects that are used as symbolic metaphors for people’s lives and situations.
Using a combination of Carvela's wooden lasts and factory shoe moulds, shipped from the Carvela factory in Italy, the installation aptly called "Running in Circles", plays with the notion of movement and the evolution of the Carvela brand, which has come full circle as it enters a new era; introducing clothing, sunglasses, handbags, accessories and unique denim to their repertoire.
Juxtaposing the years of tradition in the wood shoe moulds, with the more modern, factory made moulds, with a background in news and film documentary making, his work is a beautiful combination of art and current affairs, which quite deliberately makes a socio-economic statement.

THE PAINTER
Born in Milano, Italy, our fine artist and colour consultant, played with shadow and light to create a luxurious display of modern art.
Her hand painted, gold leaf technique installation used real frangipani flowers as the outline for the four-metre high sculpture. Pushing boundaries in the brand space and exposing the public to modern art in the unconventional space of the Carvela store, the collaborative piece creates the backdrop for the point of sale area.
Her meticulous attention to colour and detail is further elaborated in lifelike mannequins, which were sourced in Amsterdam. Using a tea-staining technique the graceful mannequins were aged using a stained charcoal colour to create a vintage look and feel.

THAT IS WHY I SAY MY COMPANY BRANDS ONE OF THE BEST QUALITIES OF SHOES- THAT IS WHY I LOVE WORKING FOR Spitz...

Sadness as madigage is Laid to rest

@ 41, AND HIS NO MORE...

The late Bafana Bafana assistant coach Thomas Madigage was given a special send-off during his funeral in Driekop in Limpopo yesterday.
Madigage passed away last week in a car accident en route back from Burgersfort. He was 41.
Thousands of people, including high-ranking officials like Minister of Sports and Recreation Fikile Mbalula, Limpopo Premier Cassel Mathale, SAFA President Kirsten Nematandani and former ANCYL President Julius Malema gathered at Madigage’s parental home to pay their last respects.
Mbalula paid tribute to ZCC church for nurturing a humble man like Madigage and urged that one of the stadiums in the country be named after him.
“We need to salute the ZCC church for nurturing this exceptional character; a humble individual which no grave will be big enough to bury him,” said Mbalula.
Jomo Sono, who adopted ‘Chincha Guluva’ in his house in Soweto at the age of 15, said Madidage was an intelligent individual and a loyal assistant coach.
“That is the reason why the crowd gathered here would shame most of the Premier Soccer League matches’ attendances,” said Sono.
Mathele said it was sad for his province to lose another talent after former Orlando Pirates striker Lesley Manyathela, who died under similar circumstances.
“Fame never went to his head; he remained selfless, went an extra mile in whatever he did and was one person who put his country above everything,” Mathale said.
Meanwhile, City of Tshwane acting mayor Terrance Mashego revealed that they intended naming the new stadium currently under construction in Soshanguve after Madigage.
“We are planning to name one of the stadiums here in Tshwane after Thomas Madigage. There is a stadium currently under construction in Soshanguve being an option to honour the legacy left behind by Madigage.”

To become a model? #Thinking out loud#

To be a professional model basically comes down to three things:

1) Having the look and talent that someone needs (generally the client) bad enough for the project they are working on at that time that they will pay you for your time.
2) Making life easier for the art director and the photographer so they will want to work with you, and not though you out of their studio.
3) Making sure the client, photographer, and art director know you exist and want to work.
Professional modeling starts with the client's need and their willingness to pay. Modeling with out paying clients is just a hobby or someone trying to rip you off. Having the right look and talent is what you inherited genetically and there is not much you can do to change that. The rest is where being a professional model comes in - knowing what to do and how to market yourself. When a project calls for someone attractive to stand next to a new product, the person who can constantly look good in front of the camera, show the emotional expression that is needed on cue, show up on time and leave on time and in so many other ways make the shoot go quickly, efficiently, and successfully, is the person who will get the job. That is also the person who gets asked back the next time. The part after the genetics is what makes a professional model and leads to a career in modeling. This is also the person who will deliver what the client needs and is why we use them and not just pull someone off the street.

Guide lines for what it takes to be a model.

Well, all the above is fine but does not give much to go on, so do you have what it takes to be a model? The first thing you have to consider is what type of model do you want be? If you are trying for high fashion modeling, the runways of Paris, the cover of Vogue, etc., the requirements are very strict. If you are hoping to do commercial modeling (such as product or lifestyle) the requirements are much broader. If you want to be a glamour, or pin-up model, this area has its own set of requirements.

First Thing to Understand

All modeling, except for some glamour, is client driven. There is no need for a model (or for that matter, a photographer) until a client has something to sell (a product, service, or idea) or in the case of editorial an idea to convey. At this point, the client becomes willing to part with the dollars (the money stream) to accomplish his/her sales or editorial goals and a model is hired. It is the size of the potential sales' goals and the model's importance in those goals that determines how much a model is paid (hourly fees. usage, etc.). Some types of glamour and stock lifestyle modeling can work differently as the photo itself has a value and the buyer can be found later. So, when we look at different types of modeling we are looking at different classes of clients. As an example, the Fashion Industry is dependent on using models in its advertising, promotion, and sales material. In certain top fashion market cities this can lead to many job possibilities and high fees. So when considering a modeling career you must start by looking at the different types of modeling being demanded by clients, the requirements for a given type of modeling and if your physical, talent and personality are right for that type of modeling.

What is art?

Art...

ART has not always been what we think it is today. An object regarded as Art today may not have been perceived as such when it was first made, nor was the person who made it necessarily regarded as an artist. Both the notion of "art" and the idea of the "artist" are relatively modern terms.
Many of the objects we identify as art today -- Greek painted pottery, medieval manuscript illuminations, and so on -- were made in times and places when people had no concept of "art" as we understand the term. These objects may have been appreciated in various ways and often admired, but not as "art" in the current sense.            ART lacks a satisfactory definition. It is easier to describe it as the way something is done -- "the use of skill and imagination in the creation of aesthetic objects, environments, or experiences that can be shared with others" -- rather than what it is.            The idea of an object being a "work of art" emerges, together with the concept of the Artist, in the 15th and 16th centuries in Italy.            During the Renaissance, the word Art emerges as a collective term encompassing Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture, a grouping given currency by the Italian artist and biographer Giorgio Vasari in the 16th century. Subsequently, this grouping was expanded to include Music and Poetry which became known in the 18th century as the 'Fine Arts'. These five Arts have formed an irreducible nucleus from which have been generally excluded the 'decorative arts' and 'crafts', such as as pottery, weaving, metalworking, and furniture making, all of which have utility as an end.            But how did Art become distinguished from the decorative arts and crafts? How and why is an artist different from a craftsperson?            In the Ancient World and Middle Ages the word we would translate as 'art' today was applied to any activity governed by rules. Painting and sculpture were included among a number of human activities, such as shoemaking and weaving, which today we would call crafts.
During the Renaissance, there emerged a more exalted perception of art, and a concomitant rise in the social status of the artist. The painter and the sculptor were now seen to be subject to inspiration and their activities equated with those of the poet and the musician.
In the latter half of the 16th century the first academies of art were founded, first in Italy, then in France, and later elsewhere. Academies took on the task of educating the artist through a course of instruction that included such subjects as geometry and anatomy. Out of the academies emerged the term "Fine Arts" which held to a very narrow definition of what constituted art.
The institutionalizing of art in the academies eventually provoked a reaction to its strictures and definitions in the 19th century at which time new claims were made about the nature of painting and sculpture. By the middle of the century, "modernist" approaches were introduced which adopted new subject matter and new painterly values. In large measure, the modern artists rejected, or contradicted, the standards and principles of the academies and the Renaissance tradition. By the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, artists began to formulate the notion of truth to one's materials, recognizing that paint is pigment and the canvas a two-dimensional surface. At this time the call also went up for "Art for Art's Sake."
In the early 20th century all traditional notions of the identity of the artist and of art were thrown into disarray by Marcel Duchamp and his Dada associates. In ironic mockery of the Renaissance tradition which had placed the artist in an exalted authoritative position, Duchamp, as an artist, declared that anything the artist produces is art. For the duration of the 20th century, this position has complicated and undermined how art is perceived but at the same time it has fostered a broader, more inclusive assessment of art.

Exams

It's that time again. Say goodbye to fingernails, goodbye to your social life and goodbye to sleep. Exams are looming, but don't start stressing just yet. QS Top Universities has put together the top 10 study tips you'll need to get the results you want.

1. Give yourself enough time to study. Don't leave it until the last minute. Despite what people say, cramming all the information into your brain the night before isn't the best way to approach an exam. Set out a timetable for your study. Write down how many exams you have and the days on which you have to sit them. Then organise your study accordingly. You may want to give some exams more study time than others, so find a balance that you feel comfortable with.

2. Organise your study space. Make sure you have enough space to spread your textbooks and notes out. Have you got enough light? Is your chair comfortable? Are your computer games out of sight? Try and get rid of all distractions and then arrange your books into piles. Put your English books in one pile, your physics books in another so when its time to study for that exam, you've got everything you need in front of you. It also eliminates any possible excuses!

3. Design a flow chart. This is a bit like brainstorming, but instead of coming up with new ideas, you're writing down everything you already know about a topic. Put it in an easy to follow diagram with key points that you can easily replicate in an exam. That way, when the exam starts, you can spend five minutes preparing for your answer and then expand on your ideas.

4. Practice on old exams. It's always good to find out what kind of questions are going to be in the exam and the best way is too look through old exams. That will give you an idea of the layout of an exam, the number of short answers and long answers there will be and the amount of time you should be giving each section.

5. Explain your answers to others. Parents and little brothers and sisters don't have to be annoying around exam time. Use them to your advantage. Explain an answer to a question to them. That will help you to get it clear in your head. If you find it difficult to explain, perhaps you need to do a bit more study. But at least you won't turn up to the exam and realise you don't know the answer to a question!

6. Organise study groups with your friends. You may have questions that they have the answers to and vice versa. You're social life doesn't have to be non-existent during study times. Grab a pizza and your textbooks and get studying with your mates.

7. Take a break. Don't force yourself to sit studying for 24 hours a day. If you're training for a marathon you don't try and run 24 hours a day. Develop a study routine that works for you. If you study better in the morning, then start early before taking a break at lunchtime. Do something mindless in the afternoon and then start studying again in the evening if you know you're more productive at night. Don't feel guilty that you're out enjoying the sunshine instead of hunched over your textbooks. Vitamin D is important for the brain!

8. Snack on brain food. Keep away from junk food and opt for a bowl of nuts instead. They're much better for the waistline and for the brain. You need to fuel your body while you study so make sure you eat nutritious food that has been proven to help your brain focus such as fish, nuts, yoghurt and blueberries.

9. Pack your pencil case. Make sure your pens work and your pencils are sharpened. Nothing is worse for your nerves then having your pen run out of ink at the start of an exam. If you're sitting a maths or science exam, make sure you have all the necessary equipment you'll need as well like rulers, compasses and calculators,

10. Stock up with sweets and water. Keeping your sugar levels up is just as important during an exam as it is during a football match. You need to stay alert and hydrate your body. If you start to feel yourself fade halfway through your exam, just pop a sweet into your mouth and you'll be away again.

After all the tips are being maintained- believe me you it is Party time...

An infection that scared the living hell out of me..

What is Kidney Infection?

After i discovered that I have Kidney Infection, it worried me so much that I started doing research on all sorts of infection, but mainly now I would like to brief you on the Causes of Kidney Infection:

Kidney infection, also known as pyelonephritis, is a type of urinary tract infection (UTI) typically caused by E. coli bacteria. The bacteria may have spread from the bladder or the urethra to one of the kidneys, infecting it. The urethra is a tube which transports urine from the bladder outside the body.

Kidney infection, if not treated promptly, can lead to serious complications, including kidney damage and sepsis (blood poisoning). It is usually treated with
antibiotics. In many cases, patients with kidney infection are hospitalized.

What are the causes of kidney infections and the risk factors associated with it?

  • Weakened immune systems - some patients with weakened immune systems may have a bacterial or fungal infection on their skin which eventually gets into the bloodstream and attacks the kidneys, causing an infection there.
  • The urethra - Alternatively, the pathogen (e.g bacteria) may get into the urethra and reproduce in the bladder, infecting it. The infection may then spread into the kidneys.
  • Toilet hygiene - after going to the toilet and using toilet paper to wipe one's anus, there may be contact with the genitals, resulting in an infection getting through and working its way up to the kidneys. The infection could also enter via the anus - E. coli, a type of bacteria, can exist in the colon and eventually cause a kidney infection.
  • Female physiology - women are more vulnerable bladder infections and ultimately kidney infections than men, because their urethra is shorter, making it easier for infections to reach parts of the urinary tract more quickly.
  • Urinary catheter - a urinary catheter is a tube that is inserted into the bladder through the urethra to drain our urine. Having a urinary catheter raises the risk of developing a urinary tract infection, including kidney infection.
  • Kidney stones - individuals with kidney stones have a higher risk of developing kidney infection. Kidney stones are the result of a build-up of dissolved minerals on the inner lining of the kidneys.
  • Enlarged prostate - males with an enlarged prostate have a higher risk of developing kidney infections.
  • Sexually active females - if sexual intercourse irritates the urethra there may be a higher risk of bacteria getting inside the urinary tract, and eventually reaching the kidneys.

  • Stupid Taxi Drivers...

Who do they think they are?

Honestly speaking if one is a taxi drive, the manner in which they think is very poor- I Believe and would love to raise the fact that- becoming a taxi driver should also be added in the Department of Education as a course for further studies. This would help teach them the way of respecting, and knowing customer service, it seems as if they do not understand the fact that without customers the little that they get would not be there. As the business industry irregardless of what type of a business it is, one should know that the values of it should include the treatment of good customer service.

What pushed me to say this is because of what happened few hours ago (11 October 2012- @ 8: 30), a friend of mine picked me and my sister just after my complex as we were walking to the garage and he gave us a lift because he was going were we are going- then an idiot Drive stopped next to his car and made some funny remarks, as I was on my way to class- the way that this guy is so stupid and sorry to say this- illiterate, he blocked the car we were in and got out of the owners taxi- as he won't afford to buy his own because his not business minded but fight minded- see the worry in my eye.

They argued for almost an hour with my friend and they fined him an amount of money- for what? Are this taxi drivers ruling South Africa? They are even taking over one's bill of rights. Today my rights were infringed by taxi drivers- due to the fact that not even my brothers, sisters, uncles and cousins cannot pick me up on the street that the idiots driver. What kind of freedom is this?

Launch of Mandela Notes. What an honour

    Mandela Notes

The SA Reserve Bank launched a national campaign on Wednesday on a new range of banknotes honouring former president Nelson Mandela.
It said the range was themed “One of a kind” and that the campaign was aimed at educating the public about the banknotes, which would enter circulation before the end of the year.

The new R200, R100, R50, R20, and R10 notes would show Mandela's face on the front, and the Big Five animals, which appear on the existing notes, on the back.

Security features would include watermarks, micro-printing, and unique numbering. There would be raised printing for the visually impaired.

The new banknotes would be the same size as those already in circulation to avoid confusing the visually impaired.
“We are pleased to issue this new series of banknotes which reflects South Africa's pride as a nation and pays tribute to a much-loved world icon,” SARB governor Gill Marcus said at the bank's head office in Pretoria.
She said the campaign had already started in other countries on the continent which used the South African rand. These included Namibia, Swaziland and Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Tanzania. The banknotes already in circulation remained a legal tender and were of equal value to the one to be introduced.

Marcus said that as at December last year, R100 billion of banknotes were circulating within the South African economy.
She said it was regarded as a best practice internationally for central banks to upgrade the security features of their banknotes every six to eight years.
“This is to combat counterfeiting, which diminishes the value of real money, robs countries worldwide of billions of rand annually and tarnishes the credibility of a currency, thereby impacting on the growth of that economy,” she said.
“We've done our best to ensure that they cannot be replicated.”
The campaign would end in March.

“We are very thankful for the recognition of Tata [Mandela] in this manner,” said Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, who attended the launch.
“We think it is the best birthday present he ever received on his 94th birthday.” - Sapa

After this degree of mine- Then the chase is on you....

    My Dream car

BMW has just launched its new 1 Series hatchback in South Africa.
The engine line-up includes a 1,6-litre four-cylinder petrol unit in that pushes out 100 kW at 4 400 r/min in the 116i, as well as a 125 kW 1,6-litre petrol engine with 250 N.m in the 118i. Both feature TwinPower turbocharging. The 2,0-litre turbodiesel is offered in the 120d and also makes use of TwinPower turbocharging. The engine develops 135 kW and 380 N.m of torque. Despite its improved performance compared with the previous 120d, the car’s average fuel consumption has been lowered to 4,5 litres/100 km and the CO₂ emission level is 119 g/km.
When compared with its predecessor, the new 1 is 85 mm longer (with a 30 mm longer wheelbase) and is wider by 17 mm, while its height remains unchanged. The result is not only a more spacious cabin, as well as a bigger luggage area (which has grown by 30 dm³).

    Sex Sells

Just looking at the body on can see that it is either fashion or modeling

    The Gist:
That phone in your pocket? That's for sex. As is pretty much everything you've ever bought, from the car you drive to the T shirt you wear — or so says evolutionary psychologist Geoffrey Miller. From mating to marketing, Miller explores how everyday consumer choices subtly — and sometimes not so subtly — reveal society's misguided attempts at projecting four central traits (intelligence, conscientiousness, openness, and agreeableness) to attract sexual partners.
    Highlight Reel:
    1. On the difficulty of explaining modern life to our prehistoric ancestors: "Compared with their easygoing clannish ways, our frenetic status seeking and product hunting would look bewildering indeed. Our society would seem noisy, perplexing and maybe psychotic ... All you have to do is sit in classrooms every day for 16 years to learn counterintuitive skills, and then work and commute 50 hours a week for 40 years in tedious jobs for amoral corporations, far away from relatives and friends, without any decent child care, sense of community, political empowerment or contact with nature. Oh, and you'll have to take special medicines to avoid suicidal despair, and to avoid having more than two children. It's not so bad, really. The shoe swoosh’s pretty cool."
    2. on the biological concept of marketing: "Since about 1990, there have been two bloodless but momentous revolutions in human affairs: the collapse of Communism in politics, and the rise of signalling theory in biology. Both depended on the same insight: individuals work hard mostly because they want to show off to others, not for the good of the group. This tendency holds true in both organic evolution and human economics ... We've known since Darwin that animals are basically machines for survival and reproduction; now we also know that animals achieve much of their survival and reproductive success through self-advertisement, self-marketing and self-promotion."
    2. On the futility of consumer capitalism: "We take wondrously adaptive capacities for human self-display — language, intelligence, kindness, creativity, and beauty — and then forget how to use them in making friends, attracting mates and gaining prestige. Instead, we rely on goods and services acquired through education, work and consumption to advertise our personal traits to others. These costly signals are mostly redundant or misleading, so others usually ignore them. They prefer to judge us through natural face-to-face interaction. We think our gilding dazzles them, though we ignore their own gilding when choosing our friends and mates."
    The Lowdown:
Like Sigmund Freud, Miller sees sex everywhere; all our acquisitions of personal goods, according to Miller, are motivated by the primal desire for procreation, pleasure or both. Though he advocates abolishing income taxes in favour of a "consumption tax" and learning to buy second-hand, he isn't a utopian hippie radical either. "Unlike many malcontents," Miller writes, "I consider the three best inventions of all time to be money, markets and media." But while Miller does his best to avoid sounding too academic (and has an ear for pulled-from-TMZ.com phrases like "insecure, praise-starved flattery-sluts"), his broad, rambling arguments read at times like a college professor's lecture notes. Worse still, his ideas don't seem particularly groundbreaking. In fact, some seem downright antiquated: Men buy Porsches to project power, women use eyeliner to look pretty, and everyone seeks attention without realizing they're going about it all wrong. But if Miller's ideas don't quite hit the mark, don't blame him. "Consumerism is hard to describe when it's the ocean and we're the plankton," he argues in his defence.

    The world of the Ladies

    8th September 2012

Bel Aire on this day was so on fire- The Whiskey Ladies held an explosive party that was so on point and fire, at first the party brought us fear and questions on what will happened and what will the results be- The whiskey Ladies planned the party in order to measure the quality of how many market share they might be having before they could lounge their brand so this party was not just a party but an analyses of people towards the up coming brand...

Thanks be to the Great one above for making it possible for us in all of the plans. The party just brought connection between us as ladies- and not only does the brand belong to the members but also others can join us.

    Let Them LADIES
                               DO
                                  WHAT
                                            THEY

                                                               DO

    love is a risk

    what more can be said:

    Love is just a game...

    The Risk of Love

There is a risk involved in everything
Every time you share a smile
Every time you shed a tear
You are opening yourself up to hurt.

Some people tread slowly through life,
    Avoiding the closeness risk brings,
Sidestepping the things they can not understand
Turning away from those who care too much-
Those who care stay too long,
    Those who hold too tightly.

There is never an easy way to love
    You cannot approach it cautiously
It will not wait for you to arm yourself.

It does not care if you turn away
It is everywhere, it is everything.
Love is the greatest of all risks.

It is not reliable, it is not cautious,
    It is not sympathetic
    It is unprejudiced and unmerciful.
It strikes the strongest of mind,
And brings them to their knees in one blow.

Even in the best of times, love hurts.
It hurts to need, it hurts to belong,
It hurts to be the other part of someone else,
    Without either of your consent.

But, from the moment it overtakes you,
It hurts worse to be all alone.
    The risk of love never depletes;
It grows stronger and more dangerous with time.
But, it is in the total surrender of all defense,
That we, no matter weak or strong,
    No matter willing or captive,
No matter what, we truly experience love.

Despite the many things love is not,
Outweighing it all are the things that love is.
Love is surrender without a loss.
It is a gift without the cost.
It consumes your every thought and desire,
    Every breath you take.
It is the fire that fuels you
    To do more than pass through life;
It urges you, instead, to live.

No matter the outcome, having felt love,
You will never be the same.
It may scar your heart and soul
And leave you only memories of forever.
Or, it may cause every day of your life
To feel like there is no need for tomorrow.
But, love is worth it. It is worth the risk...

    For in all of life,
Love is truly the only risk worth taking.

    Rocking the 8th September 2012

Partying has just become one of my trends in life

I just couldn't believe my eyes after what i saw on the 8th September 2012, the Whiskey ladies just know how to do there things from nothing to a huge thing. A small Chillas was organised by us (Whiskey Ladies), just to make an awareness of our brand- believe you me- the way that it was so packed not a single person could believe that only few ladies organised such an even. What i loved the most about the whole event, is that it went so prefect with no disaster or any crisis.

After this event i set myself down and had to think much about the future- one should not go to Varsity just to go and work for someone- to start your own thing does not have to be generated by someone by yourself.

LOGO AND SLOGAN is to follow- watch out...
